@anne_twain That just wouldn't happen. You can't Zoom into Parliament - all of the laws reqiure a physical presence. If the MPs have to be there, then some of their staff have to be there (the ones who don't, stay in the electorate for the most part). I don't think it's useful to focus entirely on eliminating travel, although that is part of the picture. Australia needs electrified high speed rail, and for the small amount of air travel that can't be eliminated, we should encourage the use of recycled biofuels and possibly hydrogen in the future, although I am for the most part a hydrogen sceptic. #GovernmentTravel #AirTravel #SustainableTransport #auspol #biofuel #hydrogen #AustralianGreens

Something wrong with the system, methinks?

122,494 people were estimated to be experiencing homelessness on Census night in 2021.

There were 1,043,776 unoccupied dwellings on Census Night.

That's nearly ten empty dwellings for every homeless person.

Now obviously some of the unoccupied dwellings were short term or transitional situations ... between tenancy, undergoing repair, vacant pending sale, and so on.

But 1.043 *million* of them? I don't think so. That's around 10% of all dwellings in Australia, vacant at the same time.

Typically, tenancy vacancy rates are less than 5% in recent years. And that's only dwellings available for rent. (See chart below)

That seems to me to be lots of people speculating on capital growth and ad-interim tax benefits. But I'm open to other explanations. Anyone? Anyone at all?

If that is correct, I humbly suggest that while government intervention to directly try to reduce capital growth would only be three kinds of clusterfuck, so to speak, the question of tax treatment is and should be within the reach of governments.

Of course, with more than half of our Federal MPs, **spread evenly across the 3 major parties** owning more than 2 dwellings, the chance of reform is SFA. How do you spell 'conflict of interest'?
