Another (possibly final) thought on the #AustroHungarianAdventure regarding our #Interrail Passes : we used the mobile app version and had no problems at all.

The only minor issues were in the UK - the East Midlands Railway conductor didn't know what to do with the pass, but didn't make a fuss. The other was that the passes wouldn't open the gates at Cambridge station when we went to get breakfast.
The barriers on the Elizabeth line, or Thameslink, or NS (Netherlands) weren't a problem at all.

Now that the dust has settled on the #AustroHungarianAdventure we are looking forward to a few days in #Cromer next month, and going back to #Belgium later in the year for a week.

We could have got the earlier train, but I was hungry. I'm also tired and grumpy.

Through the cabin window we can see the cranes of the port of #Harwich.

I'm connected to the UK mobile network - so we're back in Blighty, almost.

There will be a very loud wakeup call in about half an hour, so I'm dozing until then.

I knew I'd booked a 'better cabin' for the penultimate leg of the #AustroHungarianAdventure but we seem to be in Extra-Luxury Class with the contents of the minibar included (If I've paid for it then I'm having it. It'll fit in the suitcase somehow 🤔😊)

I'm generally in #anxiety mode when it comes to making connections, so we're always early (sometimes ridiculously early)

Check in here was meant to be opening at 18:45 - it's now 19:24 and the crowd (!) is getting restless.
There's 19 waiting plus one dog and a bicycle. No one has suggested storming the barriers yet - I think that'll be counterproductive in this instance though.

Hook of Holland station, which is now a metro stop but used to have train services to the whole of Europe and into Russia.

We're in our last hotel of our #AustroHungarianAdventure - although it's not our last night away.

We're in Hoek van Holland at the splendid Hotel Amerika after a mix up with the tram (non-working lifts and mysterious bi-directional escalators) plus disfunctional ticket machines - No! It wasn't me!

Great sitting in the sun eating ice cream and drinking coffee, but I an so tired.

We're now deep in the #Netherlands and the tracks are smoother again.
The #train is running 25 minutes late - which isn't too shabby considering the distance we've covered overnight.

Dutch railways all look as though they've been built in the last 20 years - it's always struck me as odd how they seem so modern. All the history seems to have been stripped out in the name of efficiency, which makes for a great #railway but a dull experience.

Good morning from my top bunk somewhere north west of Cologne. Yes, I'm still on the Sleeper Train to #Amsterdam

I've slept better than expected. Mrs Mike hasn't slept well at all.

The attendent will be bringing #breakfast in about half an hour, so I'd better start moving my bones.

I'll say that #austria has smoother #railway tracks than #germany!

We've got another full day #today here in #Vienna - the plan is to use the trams to go sightseeing around the Ringstrasse.

The weather forecast is........dry!!!

There's daughter trauma at home that our son is dealing with. We're not sure exactly what's happening, but we can't do anything here, so will make the best of our holiday.

Got to get out of bed first though!
