There is a sea of Cloud Auth / Identity management providers.

There was a time I used to roll my own, but as security is getting complicated, it seems for startups & small to medium businesses it is better to use a cloud auth provider.

Please share your thoughts on your experience with this as I look into this area.

When I asked the free version of ChatGPT to write code to use Auth0 to add login & logout to an iOS app, it gave me working code. I did the same for Android, and it didn’t work out as well. But the *really* interesting part is WHY, and HOW to fix that code!

Some apps and sites want you to fill out a giant form with all sorts of information and preferences before you can even get started.

#TIL that you don’t need an #auth library like #Laravel’s fortify. Just host an AuthN provider and implement #oidc or #ldap.

If you ship a desktop app, you don’t need #AuthN because the user is authenticated through their login into their computer.

If you ship to a business, they will have an LDAP or OIDC server or will host one when needed.

If you ship an app with online account, you can just host #Keycloak or #Authentic or pay #auth0.

All finished - I found I can delete my #Auth0 forum account myself 🎉

Final tally:
* 3 forum messages
* 6 emails

In order to delete an Auth0 account that:
* Hadn't been used in more than 3 years
* Had no tenancies
* Was not a member of any tenancies.

No wonder people don't bother cleaning up hanging accounts 😬

My "Delete #Auth0 account" journey so far - I've sent:
* 3 forum messages
* 5 emails

Success rate so far: 50 % of accounts deleted... My main Auth0 dashboard account is gone 🙌 but the forum account I had to create in order to request the deletion has not been deleted. 😞

Wow - deleting an #Auth0 account is the hardest internet cleanup thing I've tried so far.

Have got to the point where I'm asked to request permission from the "administrator of the tenant" - I've got to send them an email asking them to confirm my request for deleting and include a special code! 😬

I thought I'd try using ChatGPT to help me with some C#, #dotnet, #auth0 coding.

At first it went well, it flagged up that there was a Auth0 management SDK in Nuget. Excellent, I thought.
So I installed it and tried to follow the rest of the instructions, that's were it fell apart.

I need to add a new identity to a user:

it suggested:
await managementApiClient.Users.AddIdentityAsync(userId, identity);

There is no AddIdentityAsync method.
