Being as I'm on this new venture of adding a SciFi/future element to my taboo & fetish tales...I was debating switching up my style but decided to keep them as I typically write (some context and background, etc...but the sex scenes very primal/visceral, highly detailed & EXPLICIT and involve all 5 senses that the main character POV is experiencing within the scene.

Every morning, my ritual includes coffee and prayer. By “prayer,” I mean 20-30 minutes of reading. Book topics include theology, poetry, physics, personal growth… anything that bends my brain and introduces me to a concept I hadn’t considered.

Rebuilding. My life went sideways in May 2022, and I’ve spent the months since recalibrating, jettisoning that which no longer serves & taking steps to create my third act. Even though things have been really uncertain & chaotic, I’m also acutely aware of the fact that my “chaos” is someone else’s stable cocoon. Everything always works out for me. This will too. Holy potatoes this is delicious. I do a lot of food prep so that the week's meals are easy to make. A standard item is a peanut butter mixture I created — ground flax seed, ginger & cinnamon (I usually top toast w/it). Today, I added it to another winter staple: a blend of steel cut oats and quinoa. A smidge of brown sugar made it just a little sweeter. LIFE CHANGING.

You can't edit what hasn't been written. The working title of my next book was literally "The Glob" for abt six months, bc I just glerbed stuff out of my head & into the Word doc. In partnership w/my editor, over time, I was able to rearrange the book in a way that made sense. Writer's block is sometimes a logjam of ideas. Let them out. Then start sorting.

@treehugger precisely. I’m also a fan of thrifting. Shopping is a treasure hunt — you never know what you’ll find. As an author, I also use outfits as writers prompts: holding up clothes/creating a micro-story abt it: “Mrs. Thicklewaite was adamant about the proper way to brew tea. She kept a silver stopwatch in the right front pocket of her hand-stitched caftan for the purpose of timing how long the tea steeped. The voluminous garment would be the death of her.”

Bennett Cerf bet Dr. Seuss that he couldn't write a book using 50 words or less. Green Eggs and Ham hit bookstores three years later and uses exactly 50 words.

My takeaway: Economies of scale can beget amazing creativity (just be careful not to wallow in a scarcity mindset).
