Okay, novel is close to done and it’s time to work on Sylvie’s next #cozymystery with her. My third Urban Fantasy has run over a bit owing to the story getting longer and more complex, as usual. 😇

#authorconfession day 9 - I don't have theme songs for any of my characters... let alone my protagonist...

#authorconfession day 8 - I think it depends on the story. It's nice to have a hopeful ending, but if it doesn't fit in the story then that can feel fake.

#authorconfession day 7... she's an introvert... but I'm not sure if that's innate, or if she's that way because of her childhood experiences...

#authorconfession day 6. Oh - this would depend on what happens to our world 1500 years in the future. Maybe we're all living in space and super scientific - in which case, the creatures in my story would certainly shake some people's worldview. But maybe civilisation as we know it falls, and we go back to an agrarian-type society, in which case it would fit pretty well... 😁

#authorconfession day 5 - I don't have a specific year(s) in mind - sometime in the past when people believed in selkies and lived fairly simple agragrian lives...

so... day 4... I don't select flaws for my characters, I just let them evolve as the story does.

My characters are usually created from scratch. Sometimes they come fully formed, but mostly I have a vague glimpse of them, and it takes time to get to know them properly.

Day 1...

I'm Heather, I love history and fantasy and magical realism. I write all sorts of things - but most fall within one of those categories, somewhere.

My #WIP is a novella I wrote in June/July last year. Currently titled #HowtheTidesTurn, it's about selkies, set in a semi-historical setting. Started reading over it this morning and so far it reads really well. Fingers crossed the rest of it is as good.
