The ‘people with allism/neurotypicality’ meme, turning the tables on allistics/neurotypicals, feels more pointed when the phrase is ‘people with not-autism’

Or it could just be the way Purple Ella does it: vm.tiktok.com/ZGJgptdJ7/ 🪢

Yes, to all of this, and I apply it to myself when in discussions about misogyny. It's an issue I get highly emotive about, due to my own personal experiences.

I have to see the perspective of those on the other side and, as you say, be careful not to become combative (as that achieves nothing!). However, I think speaking with conviction and passion is important. But with empathy too.

Regarding , and speaking out against the marginalization imposed by the dominant neuro-majority, and how that marginalization negatively impacts persons {especially in crucial efforts and needs such as obtaining and keeping employment, how we're treated in the workplace, in school and academic environments, and with obtaining and keeping housing, but also in relationships including our family interactions],
I agree that the notion "both sides have good points" is misguided and relies on a the logical fallacy of the "false equivalency".

Would anyone use that as a model to understand the mistreatment of any other marginalized group? I don't think so.

This especially applies to my experience in jobs, and in school and college situations, where I've been treated horribly and in completely unjustified ways that to this day still cause me pain and stress when these memories surface.

And my family experience growing up, and certain relationships, were extremely unfair. I won't leave that out of this.

On the other hand, there have been times I was primarily the one misunderstanding someone else and I try to be cognizant of those moments when I can be more fair, more empathetic, less judgemental, less combative.

That's just basic common sense, and I think sometimes that's all that people are trying to carve out room for in these discussions.

If we can never admit to misunderstanding, we may become as bad as the dominant neuro-majority who oppresses and abuses the marginalized neurodivergent community.

I'm not always right, I can be as obtuse as anyone else. Pretty basic stuff.

[This is a repost of a comment I made elsewhere to move it to my own account, because I think it's a valid point to make.]

@Szilvia@aus.social Absolutely not! Hans was basically a and pretty much let non-asperges out to die while keeping the autistics classified as Aspergers. As well, functioning levels like and Aspergers are now considered harmful by the community so I'm glad that we are moving away from that.

Autistic acceptance/
neurodiversity/
disability activism has become a special interest for me again, its all I use the internet for lately.

I really want to see the world become kinder and more accepting of autistic people in my lifetime and I want to help make it that way.

If you post about autistic advocacy or any neurodiversity please interact with this post and I'll follow you :)
