2/ Once you identify a principle, you can repeat the experiment with the same results, and then apply those results on a large scale in the real world. What puzzles me about the current movement towards AI is that developers want to create increasingly evolved systems. By definition, they will not be able to understand these systems. The aim is to have systems that function on their own without human input and, therefore, without human control.

Don't mistake about it. It is not an easy topic. What if the machines can achieve a 90% civilian victims decrease? Should we still hold to our positions and forbid autonomous weapons? But if it is allowed, who will be responsible of the remaining 10%? These are still dead people. It's a very tough question, and I must admit I don't have any certainty about it.
