Self-organizing systems are characterized by their intrinsic, nonlinear operators, (i.e., the properties of their constituent elements, macromolecules, spores of the slime mold, bees, etc.), which generate macroscopically (meta-) stable patterns maintained by the perpetual flux of their constituents. A special case of #self_organization is #autopoiesis. It is that organization which is its own Eigen-state: the outcome of the productive interactions of the components of the system are those very components. It is the organization of the #living, and, at the same time, the organization of #autonomy.

Wie erklärt man am besten #Autopoiesis?

Stellt Euch ein IT-Projekt vor. Warum sind dort nicht nur Ingenieure sondern auch Leute mit #BWL-Hintergrund?
Weil BWLer dafür gesorgt haben, dass BWLer in IT-Projekten rummarodieren dürfen, was sich nun so lange wiederholt, bis es nicht mehr funktioniert. Ein System setzt sich selbst fort, ohne dass es einen größeren Sinn dahinter gäbe.

Euer tägliches Leid ist also systemisch. :3

I think Maturana may have “jumped the gun” here by succumbing to the cybernetic #control vs. #controlled type of thinking and using a gun (a mere passive #product or #structure) as a metaphor for an active, living #system.

In my mind, the notion of external control so pervasive in #cybernetics does not fit well with the notions of #autopoiesis and #constructivism.

Unlike a (living) system, the gun has no other #choice but to react to the trigger, except, as Maturana notes, in case of malfunction (which is not equivalent to choice).

Of course you can't do anything with it. It is #autopoiesis. It is doing things onto itself like #growing and #learning. 😉

Control in #Cybernetics always has to come from the outside or is exerted, not internally onto the elements that make the system but onto something else outside of the “control” system.

Even such brilliant thinkers as #FJ_Varela, one of the “fathers” of #autopoiesis could not escape this profoundly ingrained “cybernetic” assumption:

“#Autonomy means, literally, self-law. To see what this entails, it is easier to contrast it with its mirror image, #allonomy or external law. This is, of course, what we call #control. These two images, autonomy and control, do a continuous dance.”

Maturana ganz lax formuliert und nur nebenbei erzählt, dass Autopoiesis nicht aus seiner Biologie kommt, sondern seine Biologie begründet, wird immer wieder - wohl in Anlehnung an N. Luhmann - unterstellt, Autopoiesis sei ein biologisches Konzept. Autopoiesis ist ein Theoriekonstrukt. Maturana hat damit seine Kybernetik auf Systeme bezogen, die sich selbst hervorbringen. Lebewesen waren für ihn das exemplarische Beispiel. Wer Theorie und Biologie nicht unterscheiden .. 1/2

and I am continually bewildered by the fact that no one in the #Constructivist field figured out yet that #Autopoiesis, although necessary, is not the sufficient condition for #Life.

All #LivingSystems are in fact #DynamicalSystems with memory made of #Material, #Energy, and #Information structures participating continually in both auto- and allopoietic processes.

In fact, the recursive, #Autopoietic processes of learning and growth depend only on (are “structurally coupled” with) the linear #Allopoietic work processes dealing with all the things (resources, waste) in the system’s environment and producing the externally observable #behavior of the living (dynamical) system.

#Autopoiesis, as coined by #HumbertoMaturana, is in the #Contextualist #RootMetaphor of #StephenCPepper, rather than the organismic root metaphor, say #HowardMancing and #JenniferMarstonWilliam #PurdueLibArts

Jeder kennt das Phänomen: Man will einschlafen, kann es aber nicht, weil das #Denken einfach nicht aufhören will. Nur Wenige scheinen das tieferliegende Problem zu ergründen: Wenn #ICH schlafen will - also nicht denken will - WER oder was denkt dann eigentlich gegen meinen Willen? - Offensichtlich nicht ICH.
