The first statue, from the Ming dynasty, portrays the bodhisattva as make, in Indian garb. Notable in this one are the four heads in the headgarb.

The second statue, from the Tang dynasty shows the bodhisattva standing in almost a dance pose.

Starting in the Song dynasty, about 1000 CE, the bodhisattva began to be portrayed as female in China and identified with the deity Guanyin.
