Humanity in #AvatarWayOfTheWater is invasive, destructive, inconsiderate, and selfish, except for our few protagonists. It's not a terrible reflection of our society as it stands now, but they had the chance to build a better future for your fictional world and model it for today's audiences. And they blew it.

I had the honor of listening to professional book reviewer Paul Goat Allen talk last week about how Golden Age scifi looked ahead to a bright future, and recent scifi doesn't really. (Hopepunk/solarpunk notwithstanding, I assume.) #AvatarWayOfTheWater is a great example.

Watched #AvatarWayOfTheWater in 4DX today. Looked beautiful and the underwater stuff was impressive. Like the first one, a bit thin on the story, but was another fun cinema experience

Friendly advice: If you are planning to see the new Avatar movie, have yourself a comfort stop and go before you, uh, go. It is a very long movie with many splashy water scenes. #AvatarWayOfTheWater

My take on #Avatar2: this is 3 different movies, one after the other. The first part is a shoot 'em up military SF movie. That's followed by a joyful art film about the ocean, & then it turns into a disaster movie, basically "The Poseidon Adventure." I liked the middle part best because it's gorgeous. But the end was fun too (I really like the Poseidon Adventure.) First ~1 hr could be cut entirely. Long boring battle scene with no real stakes. #avatarwayofthewater #avatarthewayofthewater #avatar

I just realised the main thing missing from #AvatarWayOfTheWater is Michelle Rodriguez.
A well made film, makes it sound like a criticism but it’s not. No sense of watching an animation. I can’t know if I was watching in HFR, so I probably wasn’t.
Absolutely no justification for the long run time. Although it didn’t feel too long there were huge parts that would make sense on a multi episode TV show but were redundant on a film. Most jarring part was the very earthly kids.
