The Black skimmer, literally "scratches" the surface of the water looking for prey, is an elegant and agile bird that is observed on the coast and in some lakes. This is a migratory species present from September to May in El Salvador, with a small breeding population in on sandy islands in the Bay of Jiquilisco.
