My #AvtuallyAutistic truth is that while I have found a welcoming family once I accepted said truth online, that while all my meaningful connections have always been on the spectrum I was denied a right to said truth, a right to understand myself by my elders. My autistic truth is that I had to deconstruct every single interaction I know my parents had with their parents in order to compute why they acted the way they did, my #AutisticTruth is that anyone and everyone whom ever met be they on the spectrum themselves or not always recognized me as such. My autistic truth is that I grew up in hospitals where I had to actively mask in order for the needs of my otherwise sick body to be met.
My #AutisticTruth is that while every single doctor I had over the years considered my autism as a given, unmasking meant taking the risk of institutionalization
