Funnily enough, I have a vivid memory of one of my teachers, Mrs Skelton, a bully, taking the school assembly, and, reading from a copy of , telling us about a mission where a had a single hyphen in the wrong place and caused a rocket to rapidly disassemble.

Awe is the emotion of big or other-worldly experiences. It's that sense of wonder you experience when you feel small but connected to something bigger and more complex.

Awe is considered usually to be a positive emotion that helps to unlock cognition and help us think more expansively. When I feel awe regularly, I feel much calmer afterwards!

If I am feeling down in the dumps, I throw myself up a hillside on a brisk walk and, within a few minutes, everything seems to be better in perspective and I feel better prepared to handle my day.

If I need to feel some inspiration for my research, then I'll find something to marvel at in what I am reading, or in the accounts of any research participants.

What inspires awe for me may not inspire awe in you. It's also to find accessible awe... awe that you are able to access and that you can afford to access.

Yes, swimming with elephants might inspire awe but it might not be available to you.

However, you might be able to marvel at ladybirds on a plant, for example, and experience awe about the natural world...all from the comfort of looking at a plant in your living room.

So what helps you to experience awe? Where do you go or what do you do to experience awe?

How have you felt in mind and body after an awe-some experience?

How does awe connect to your own research and projects? Maybe to your willingness to engage or to have really cool ideas?
