Speaking of #WomenInSport #PlayLikeAGirl the hot topic at the moment.

The Sydney Sirens who play in the #AWIHL which is THE top level Ice Hockey competition in Australia, don't get anywhere near as much sponsorship as the men. To the point the players themselves usually pay for all of their own equipment, ice time, travel & accommodation out of their own pockets.

This season is going to be expanded to a full home & away comp, which puts even more stress on the players own wallets.

The season runs from late October through until the start of March. There's a few hundred people who attend every home game at Macquarie Ice rink PLUS every single game is broadcast on https://cluch.tv/ and available to anyone with an account (no paid sub required).

As well as volunteering with them (and hopefully doing rink announcing) I'll be throwing $500 in with a group who like to pool money towards player sponsorships. #SoundTheSiren #RefuseToLose

I absolutely love the way people are discovering women's sport is actually good. If I follow a sport it's generally both men's & women's teams. Not always but mostly.

It'd be great to see larger crowds at the women's matches! Especially the #SuperW Rugby Union and #AWIHL Ice Hockey (starting late October).

I see the #SuperRugbyPacific #SuperRound has been announced!

And it’s the weekend I’ve been lead to believe will be the #AWIHLFinals. Meaning I’ll be in Melbourne anyway, but I’ll only be able to attend the Friday matches of Super Round, the womens ice hockey finals matches will conflict with the Saturday & Sunday Super Round matches. #AWIHL

I’M AWAKE!

Nice and early on a Sunday because Ice Hockey. Last Sydney Sirens #AWIHL home game of the season.

Home from a chaotic ice hockey match.

Had just started the intro, welcome, all the pre-match stuff, and the big screen’s power went out. No graphics, no promotional stuff, and NO SCOREBOARD.

Thankfully there was an electrician in the crowd who was able to fix it there and then so we didn’t have to wait for someone called out.

And Sydney Sirens took it 6-0 over Perth Inferno. Next match at 8:15am tomorrow morning. #AWIHL #SoundTheSiren

Now home for the Waratahs v Reds pre-season match.

All prep work done for today’s Sirens v Inferno #AWIHL match. I can now relax until it’s time to head to the rink.
