Getting back to my manuscript during the week between Christmas and New Year's after having been away from it for awhile is an odd feeling. Like the people in the manuscript have been in waiting in limbo or in suspended animation, almost suffocating and I need to resuscitate them. And the actual resuscitation consists of putting words back on the page again. It's like breathing life into them with each word I type. #writerdon #AWritersLife

I hate to admit that I procrastinate sometimes as a writer, as Anna Hogeland explains in this short piece. Finally, I got through adding to my manuscript a scene of racial discrimination in 1943 in Paris, Tennessee involving Black soldiers who wouldn't be served at a "white" restaurant. Decided not to "invent" dialogue, but instead took verbatim language from a letter describing the incident.
