Looks like there where 57 Check In's on the 2nd monthly Packet Radio net. Up from 30 something on the first one :)
If you missed out don't worry the next one starts on my 19th!

Someone started this packet radio check in "NET" last month and got 39 check in's. 😀
The stated reason for the net:
"There are
sysops all over the country that are keeping the packet network alive please
show your appreciation for these folks by giving there system some traffic!"
Even if you are outside of the eastern USA your check in might make it there is a 44net linked PBBS near you. It's just for fun so give it a try 🛰️

A project worth keeping an eye on, this is a Python3 implementation of the 1.1.18 TNC2 ROM shell atop `aioax25`.
It's early days just now, but definitely a worthwhile addition to the amateur radio software stack. Likely it'll expose lots of deficiencies in `aioax25` at the same time, but that's fine, it's an opportunity to make that library better too. 🙂

This weekend's task was connect my Evolve III laptop running #ArchLinux to my TH-D74 with bluetooth for #AX25 packet.
Found the ax25 stuff in the AUR.
Bluetooth appears to be connected. Kissattach seemed to work.
But how do I start ax25d?

It's nice that I no longer have to carry 2 phones to be able to do #hamradio stuff, though I did need 2 phones to take this photo. #AX25 #packetradio #iOS

Fun with old z80 based packet TNC’s.
There are some packet nodes running “TheNet” NOS around me. I hunted forever to find a complete distribution with the DOS program that edits the ROM image that you need to burn to your TNC’s rom. Lucked out and a broken link was still on wayback. I put a copy on my website (https://junkman.sdf.org) with some other old stuff i found.
Now my node is talking to other TheNet nodes and updating their route tables on their own 😀
#packetbbs client: successful after a detour through #ax25 land. Responded to a message someone sent me months ago
#winlink: also successful, though if #WinlinkWednesday is a thing, maybe I should have worked on it yesterday :alex_crazy: The hard part was finding a node near me that was listening for 1200 baud packet on 2 meters…and then finding one that actually bothered to respond to me!
I’m getting better at #systemd, which gives me cause for concern. :alex_grimace:

@hb9hli It brings back a lot of good memories too. Back in the days when I was very active on #AX25, I even wrote articles about #PCFlexnet for the #RadioREF magazine.
This winter project will be to set up a good old VHF 1200bps #AX25 #packetRadio station. Just for fun. And for resilience, too.

The Minitel was in quite every home in France. It was my #hamradio #AX25 #packetRadio terminal along with a TNC2-C in the early 90's.
Great memories...
