Fast Starting #JVM #Clojure with Checkpoint/Restore (Part 1) #babashka

@rrwo @Perl Personally, I would probably do it that way if I needed a quick solution. For something like that, #golang is really good. I sometimes use something like this in the #babashka (#clojure) world. For babashka, there are so-called pods that you can use to integrate external programs (programming languages) via a defined protocol. As I said, the advantage is that you don't need python and golang on the target system.
i like both, #ruby and #lua, quite a bit, so i actually found it pretty hard to vote here 😄
probably i'd go for lua, as i see more use cases for myself there, like gamedev & modding which are not covered as well by other languages.
but like @rberger i'd recommend #clojure if you want to experience something different. in combination with #babashka i use it for all my scripting and i use the normal clojure for all my prototyping. you can use it for production ready stuff too, of course. i'm just someone who jumps from prototype to prototype 😅
then there's also #fennel, which is very much inspired by clojure, but compiles to lua 🤪

RT @borkdude: The #babashka_conf videos are now published on Youtube! Enjoy! Thanks to @juxtpro and in particular @malcolmsparks and his staff for recording and producing the videos.

I find the concepts of #graalvm quite interesting and exciting. Something like this should have existed earlier in the "Java" world. Too bad still gets too little attention. #Babashka would probably not exist without the graalvm. https://www.graalvm.org/why-graalvm/
babashka.el is now on MELPA. A simple #Emacs interface for #babashka tasks https://github.com/licht1stein/babashka.el
@rrwo The core of Perl has either old modules that I have never used or simple basic things (like a json parser etc.) are missing. Sorry, that's my opinion. I find Perl as a language personally really good. But otherwise the tooling or the core is absolutely not up to date. If I didn't have to, I wouldn't use perl for new applications. Otherwise something like #golang or even #python (if I have to).
Or I find environments like #babashka currently extremely exciting.
For those of you who do DevOps using #babashka and #clojure , you can now connect to remote unix sockets (#docker endpoint) secured with ssh. Use the latest release of #bbssh https://github.com/epiccastle/bbssh/releases/tag/v0.5.0 .
See a guide here https://github.com/lispyclouds/contajners/blob/main/doc/002-general-guidelines.md#connect-to-docker-socket-on-remote-hosts

@jayeless but just ignore it, because some really useful stuff for the community comes from these people.
I am currently very happy about the #babashka community. I was just at the #babashka_conf and I was really happy about how diverse and open this community is, it really gave me hope. I hope there will be a clear distance from people who publicly support policies that, for example, reject homosexuals or approve of wars of aggression (Angriffskriege), etc.
RT @borkdude: Calling #babashka tasks from emacs... there's a package for that:
Just finished first version of #babashka tasks interface for #emacs https://github.com/licht1stein/babashka.el
@borkdude finally got to writing it up properly and packaging, so here's #babashka tasks interface for #emacs https://github.com/licht1stein/babashka.el
We are about to have lunch. The morning was already super interesting, a thousand new ideas for what I can use #babashka in the future. #babashka_conf
My first IRL conference in years! Really enjoying to learn about #babashka and #clojure at #babashka_conf.

Tried installing #babashka on #asahilinux, when trying to run I'm getting `Fatal error: Failed to create the main Isolate. (code 8)`. Did anybody get it working?
@borkdude This opens up completely new possibilities, e.g. to use raylib under clojurescript easily. #bun #clojurescript #nbb #sci #babashka #ffi #javascript
