(5) The parents of #BabyWill are not trapped at Starship Hospital. They are free to come and go as they please. They have free access to their child. When Baby Will is safe to leave is a medical decision, and so that aspect is not up to the parents. He will go home on January 31st at the latest unless the guardianship order is extended by the high court.

Commonly misrepresented facts are:

(1) #BabyWill was not taken from the parents. They remain the guardians. They’re just not allowed to make medical decisions for him.
(2) Due to the way the blood service works in New Zealand, it is not possible to offer directed donation. It never has been.
(3) The spike protein is not present in blood after a short period. The amounts are tiny. It is also entirely safe.
