I have moved each of my three #Mastodon instances over to #Backblaze B2 object storage and am syncing to #Vultr and #DigitalOcean as well.

@djvdq my file server has a RAID1 setup and gets backed up weekly to #Backblaze B2 storage. I also occasionally back up to an external USB hard drive; I should do that more often than I do, though.

I understand the need to raise prices over time, but #Backblaze is raising their yearly subscription price 42%! ($70 to $100 dollars a year). That seems a bit … much. I guess it’s time to look for a new cloud backup solution; luckily I just renewed so I have almost a year to find something.

#Backblaze taking a beating on Twitter over the price increase. I’m not happy myself — when my current term expires in late 2024, I go from $130 to $189 for another two years per computer. I only cover two computers so the increase looks steep.

I have a year+ to evaluate alternatives. The issue will be finding those that offer similar services and support along with a friendly UI on the web and client.

I think I just saw that Backblaze are jumping up the prices for backup etc by another $2. The relentless price rises that every backup product has for personal use will keep happening. Soon they'll remove the unlimited part of it as they struggle to manage ever expanding cost but not-so-expanding revenue. #backblaze

Backblaze is raising prices 20% its B2 cloud storage service (Amazon S3 alternative). Backblaze is making their B2 egress fees go away on Oct 3rd. I should really dig up a Dropbox-but-using-B2 type thing for Linux/macOS/iOS... especially if that software ends up being more reliable that pCloud's client. I'm not sure such a thing exists though.

I know #Twitch says I'm ultimately responsible for my community and my moderation team, but if you have beef with how things go down, let's not take it to the streets immediately.

I may not know every decisions my mods make and, even though I trust their decisions, maybe a decision was made in error and we can fix it without it blowing out of proportion.

If you have a problem with a creator, try to be civil with them with your discourse and not result to insults.

Mainly because you could just be loud and wrong about what you're accusing the creator for.

Anyway, back to installing #Backblaze.

@siracusa awesome to hear, thanks, fingers crossed indeed - I'm at 122,000 - and using a triple backup (iCloud,Local/#Synology,Offsite[#BackBlaze]); sometimes I do find myself missing Aperture as it subjectively felt faster/more responsive.

Backblaze continues to devour resources on my Intel iMac. Any ideas? I've minimized the number of backup threads as much as possible, but that never seems to help. Support wasn’t any help, either. bztransmit is already using 2.88 GB of memory, and I just restarted.
