Today's is Mad River Glen's Sunnyside Chair Lift, one of the last existing single chair ski lifts still operating (there's only one other in the US, in Alaska). It's rather neat traveling up in solitude. For this trip we went up to see the early fall colors.

This is the central octagon of a most unusual Victorian-era facility: the Crossness Pumping Station in eastern London. It was a giant steam-powered sewage pump designed to prevent backflow into the Thames. Jokingly labeled "The Cistern Chapel", it's a nice callback to the era when an engineering work such as this was a true marvel and a showpiece.
