WATCH: large backhoe dredger Goliath at work on Saturday morning, deepening Felixstowe berth 8 to 18 metres, 15 July 2023.
As with many ports handling the largest ships, Felixstowe has what are called berth pockets, where the deepest draughted vessels can float safely during a full range of tides.

At present, the backhoe dredger is working removing strips along the edges of the main deep-water channel in Harwich Harbour.
In the coming weeks, she'll be transferring her attention to the berth pockets at berths 8 and 9, which are due to be dredged to 18 metres to accomodate the next generation of deeper vessels.
