Our raccoon family was visiting, happily dining on some bird food…. When suddenly the dogs started barking in the house… That sent mama coon & her 3 babies scurrying up the tree... They figured out pretty fast the danger wasn’t real and resumed eating their meal. Very entertaining critters.

I didn't really want this non-native shrub in my Pacific Northwest yard, but the Cabbage White Butterflies (Pieris rapae) love it and sleep in it, so it stays.

I love watching them hover all over it in the evening and eventually select the exact best leaf to sleep on. It's backyard nature therapy.

Good news! i gave the hummingbird feeder a thorough cleaning, refilled it, and yesterday i spied the female coming back! Not sure if it was the cleaning and refill that did it, or if they rotate their feeding places, but i'm happy to see them back. 🥰

This big baby of a Black Swallowtail Butterfly sure is hungry and social. Saw it going back and forth between my Pink Surprise Calendulas, my Purple Coneflowers, and this big Red Man Zinnia here in my pollinator garden. Used to seeing the smaller ones coming around.
