My spouse signed me up for a beginning figure drawing class! I’m a total novice and have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. But I’m going to subject y’all to the least-bad result each week as a sort of hair shirt, I guess! We’re on week 2 already: “gesture” drawing. #badart

The winter and the damage done…

Had a rough couple of winters (and summers) that are worse on smaller trees than larger trees not yet in refinement.

Although still a way from “show” form…the damage to the lower limbs becomes more clear as spring fully arrives.

The newly dead lower branches will have to either be retained en masse, select limbs kept, or all removed.

Along the idea of bonsai demonstrating age and “having gone through some things”…I think leaving them tells a story that many trees go through…heat/cold and loss of limbs to insects, etc.

May try to do some drawings to visualize the possible choices.
