badblocks command in linux got stuck after checking certain blocks. Does that mean there is any issue with the sd card? #badblocks
SD card ddrescue retrieved everything but badblocks lists bad blocks like crazy; how come? #sdcard #badblocks #ddrescue

You know one thing I hate about #SSD #storage?
Testing it with #badblocks will most likely not tell you anything about its health and will degrade it significantly more than #HDD storage.
Are you willing to use refurb/used storage you can't test for proper function though?
I'd be happy to find out I'm wrong and someone has made a program to address this issue... but afaik no such thing has happened yet.
Mounting new HDD, error: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, missing codepage or helper program or other error #mount #harddrive #fstab #badblocks
#mount #harddrive #fstab #badblocks
I need help with this message: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error #mount #harddrive #fstab #badblocks

The resilvering finished yesterday and I moved everything from the 8TB drives onto the new array. Now wiping all of the remaining old 8TB drives with random data before selling them off. Also running #badblocks on an older 4TB drive (ALWAYS treat old drives as sus) and one of the 10TB ones since it encountered an error during the normal random data wipe.
So far Seagate Exos is proving to be very fast. They have a good rep, so hoping they all hold up well over time. Since most of the load is #Plex, it shouldn't be too punishing. #storage #homelab #zfs #TrueNAS #TrueNASCore
#badblocks #plex #storage #homelab #zfs #truenas #TrueNASCore
It's just good manners to run #badblocks with the write option before listing your old hard drives for sale. Plus, easy drive wipe! #storage #homelab
TIL: You can use #WSL2 to run #badblocks on a drive. https://superuser.com/questions/338067/equivalent-of-badblocks-on-windows-or-dos
So yesterday when I got home I wasn't greeted by what I was expecting; I saw the #Ventoy selection screen instead of results of the #badblocks scans. I still have to ask the Mrs if she knew anything happened with the power.
Oh and another setback; we are getting fiber I was hoping that when *they* had the ground open they could also place a tube between my house and my shed. They used a machine to push the fiber from the street to my door ✌️😬

So another update from me, because sometimes things go slow. I've booted a #NixOS live image and the #badblocks program is running a check of my four 4TB drives (been running for 86 hrs and done 84% I think the last time I checked).
I did change my decision to use #NILFS2 & #RAID6. After deliberate consideration I've switched my choice to #ZFS with #RAID10.
— no longer NILFS2 because it doesn't have compression and ZFS even includes the kitchen sink

If you have a S.M.A.R.T. monitored disk and get "unreadable (pending) sectors" or "failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED" or "Offline uncorrectable sectors" errors or such, here's how to find out which file system blocks and files are affected, and how to force the about to be failing disk to reallocate (map out) those sectors:
