I was honestly surprised to discover that in the 1st or 2nd episodes of #StarTrekTOS Kirk beat Spock in 3D chess. Heck, even in #BalanceOfTerror he was using his intuition to predict and outwit the Romulan commander.

I didn't think reinterpretting Shatner would be this difficult. At least Chris Pine was doing a younger version, but I happened to see #AQualityOfMercy and #BalanceOfTerror a day apart and it felt wildly discordant. Maybe I'll get used to it.🤷‍♂️

#AllStarTrek It's nutz that #StarTrekTOS had back to back episodes with Barbara Baldavin playing star fleet personnel, but as Angela her fiance dies in the first one, and then she gets renamed as a different character Teller with the same uniform hooking up with another Star Fleet officer in the 2nd.

I dunno if #CaptainPike is the kind of person to condemn other people, like the cadets, to their death, which is what he's being asked to do.

As far as him messing up other #StarTrekTOS episodes like #BalanceOfTerror, the answer seems pretty simple to me, save himself and the cadets at the forseen accident, then resign.🤷‍♂️

That would probably mess up the timeline in some other way tho.😖

Now I remember why I liked this episode!

One thing it got me thinking about was how if #Pike avoided his accident and deprived Kirk of commanding the Enterprise, it wouldn't end with the events of #BalanceOfTerror going wrong.

How would Pike handle V'ger? The whale probe? Khan flying around with a functional Genesis device? Heck, there are so many disasters Pike could unwittingly make worse by removing Kirk from the equation.

After #BalanceofTerror and #TheMenagerie I think this episode had the greatest influence on the first season of #StrangeNewWorlds #AllStarTrek #StarTrek
