Although there never seems like a shortage of singles & EPs, I haven't stumbled across a great future dub LP for a while, so I'm super happy to have Big Daddy's (Simon Crab and Fritz Catlin) new album for Offen in my headphones. It's an artful blend of liquified electronica & even sun blessed Balearic moments that have been melted by the low frequency anchored dub tropes surrounding them.

Nicely microdosed genre ambiguity from Stockholm's Tomas Hallonsten, as his generally restrained, occasionally space soaring synths snuggle up with some schmaltzy piano to take a leisurely drum machine driven, jazz juiced trip through Balearic sunset vagary, cheesy pop nodding noodles & cinematic chillout. Sometimes I wish that ALL songs would just sound like this. The excellent guitar play and songwriting of The Byrds, but recontextualized in a landscape by DJ Steef (who also performed similar magic tricks on Black Sabbath’s ”Planet Caravan” and Van Morrison’s ”Into the mystic”). The endless dreamy loops, back n forth, like ocean waves hitting the beach. Aaaaah.
