Lots of us have Railway Workers in our family tree. Hadlow Road Station has been restored back to how it looked on the day it closed in 1956. Fascinating and there is a cafe! It was on the old Birkenhead Railway which is now a great cycle route along the Dee estuary.

This is a video of how a laundry worked in a Victorian stately home. But some of the methods would have been the same as in the laundry we are researching.

The building behind this little cottage was a Laundry. Wonder who took their washing there? It is a little village in Shropshire. Nearest town 6 1/2 miles away but there is a large estate nearby-Hawkstone Hall. I wonder if they used it's services?

This building is 6 1/2 miles south of Whitchurch just outside of a small village. I wonder how it functioned as a Laundry in the late Nineteenth Century.

The Baptism Register for Morda Workhouse still survives and shows that many of the mothers who had their children in the workhouse were single women. So sad that they had so few choices.
