Watched the #bamarush doc on HBO. I didn’t like it- I thought going in that we would get to see the subjects rush but instead we got zero rush, and WAY too many insipid self-inserts by the director that ate up time that could have been spent on, I dunno, exploring the systematic sexual assault and racism that only got about 30 seconds of screen time. It wasn’t a fun rush doc because there was no rush, and it wasn’t a serious rush doc because no time was spent on the serious topics. Thumbs down.

Back to watching #BamaRush. What an odd coinkidink that the one sorority I've seen on here so far with a member (just barely) darker than a paper bag is considered a bottom tier sorority 🥴

Absolutely wild that the US sorority began as an affirming space for white women in colleges and universities but then became a source of furthering social stratification because of sorority rankings which are *checks notes* based on how attractive fraternity men find them.

Watching Bama Rush on HBO while my brownies bake. Having a cheat day. lols. I did rush and get into a sorority when I was in college. Greek life was the main thing going at the small liberal arts college I attended. (I can't imagine it at a huge campus like UA.) I'm so glad my son went to a school where that wasn't all there was to the social life. So many students were independent. It was a relief to me that he didn't pledge.

Bama Rush inspired questions about #stratification of society, perception of #beauty, value and worth, persistent #racism, and how women are handmaidens to the #patriarchy. Note, the #film didn’t really cover these topics but they are under the glossy veneers. Also, are they really happy? Is this groupthink? Does everyone have false eyelashes??

Kudos to Rachel Flair for her directorial mastery and for sharing part of her personal story.
