Two sizable bamboo shoots sprang up at the same time this year. They reached full height a couple of days ago and are beginning to push out branches in all directions. I am always amazed at how fast they grow. I am an impatient plant owner. #bamboo #bambooshoots #garden

When my tummy feels unwell, I eat plain rice congee. These are #classic #Chinese #fermented #foods - all pair with congee. I ran out of salted ginger with soy beans & dried shrimp - two other preserved #Asian foods I eat with plain congee.

My tummy will feel better soon. I had a big bowl of plain congee with these 3 foods for my breakfast.

Both dishes are #peranakan food.
Babi pongteh - a pork dish (sometimes chicken) cooked in a fermented soybean stew with #potatoes, #bambooshoots, #shitakemushrooms
The black coloured dish is called Buah Keluak. It is the seed of the pangium edule tree. All parts of this tree is poisonous in its raw form and needs to be adequately treated (think #japanese #fugu)

Used some of our roasted #pork #leftovers to #cook up a #stew with some #bambooshoots #roots ; stewed in #soyasauce with #CaneSugar . We eat it with plain rice & homemade pickled parsnips & carrot.
