One of the things people nowadays really don't understand was the vital importance of #segregation to fostering systematic #racism. It's why the Alt-Right wants people to #BanBooks and fear #DragShows.

Being able to SEE and LEARN about other ways of life and other cultures educates most people away from #bigotry. But if people (espec kids) can't interact with or learn from "outside" social groups, they won't understand and SEE the injustices being put upon those groups.

Being UNable to interact with other races and LGBTQ status is why things like dehumanization and discrimination could go unchallenged for so long by so many otherwise "good people."

It's why fighting #BookBans and why making film & TV media more inclusive for women, #LGBTQ, and POC people really MATTERS.

Among the current banned authors is Toni Morrison, a Nobel laureate. Take at a look at the books - now classics - banned in the past.

Glaringly absent is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which is still being banned today. This book is rather unique in that it has been banned by the Left for the use of the N word and banned by the Right for its depiction of friendship between a black man and a white boy.

@Jonathanglick It’s scary. Not the first incident in our immediate area, but maybe the first at a #synagogue. In the next town over, a right-wing group is trying to #BanBooks about #lgbtqia people from the public library. I think it’s all fringe stuff and wayward teens around here. The local #antisemites are polite — would never invite a Jew for dinner but wouldn’t stoop to vandalism. Out in the boonies, though, there are major MAGAt areas. Oy. Onward.
