Watched #BankofDave on #Netflix tonight. Really enjoyed it. A nice feel good story about sticking it to โthe manโ
P.S. @Cougar will get an absolute kick out of one of the places I love going to being, frankly, soiled by one of the things I very much dislike.
Not being able to look at the Cricket Field Stand the same again.
I tell you if she exists, God has a bastard of a sense of humour.
The main driving beats of the plot (no spoilers) er, didn't actually happen. It's the #Colbert idea of #truthiness
So on first watch, my head was being totally messed with.
On a re-watch, I could just relax and let it go a lot more.
There's probably a name for it - some variant of the Uncanny Valley - but it's so, so weird to have your head messed with by a cosy little romcom/fish out of water/underdog through no fault of your own *or* the film!

It makes no bones about #BankOfDave being "based on a true(ish) story".
Bits of it were filmed in Burnley and bits were very obviously not. E.g. the characters walk to the entrance of a pub. They go inside and my brain goes "That's inside The Royal Dyche."
But the outside shot was some other building.
This happens all the way through and it was breaking my brain.
That's before we get to the story, where the background and basics are true but the events are very much not.
However, there is a problem to me specifically.
You know when you watch something filmed in a place you know and you consciously or subconsciously spot the joins?
Like when a car is driving down a street and turns left into another street that is in real life half a mile away?
Only you notice this and not 99.9% of the audience because they aren't familiar with the geography.
Imagine that, for an 100 minutes. Not just filming locations but also the plot.
That's the #BankOfDave film for me.
OK, I mentioned the #BankOfDave film on Netflix and that I had a rather weird reaction to it.
First up, it's a decent little movie. It does the job it intends to do, making you feel good at the end with a few laughs and sad bits on the way.
If you sit down with your better half, a glass of wine after a long day/week and stick it on the telly, then it will certainly hit the spot. It's not going to pull up any trees but it's a well acted, well made feel good film and I do recommend it.
Pillars of community are the ordinary folk who are not after status or money or fame. They're the ones who touch so many lives and define who we are.
So beautifully put by Dave in the #BankOfDave and so apt for the whole #SocEnt sector.
Good one #Netflix ๐๐ฝ
The film Bank of Dave on Netflix exposes a characteristic narrow minded ruling elite as comic out of touch buffoons, but they are far from comic, very much real and as we've discovered over the last 12 years of then being in or close to power deeply incompetent.

COMMUNITY CHANCE: Chris Foggin's Netflix movie 'Bank of Dave' builds a tale around the true story of a Lancashire businessman's attempts to establish a bank in Burnley. But does the comedy drama starring Rory Kinnear, Joel Fry, Hugh Bonneville and Def Leppard hit all the right notes?.. https://loveitinpomona.blogspot.com/2023/01/community-chance-bank-of-dave.html #bank #netflix #community #film #streaming #finance #movies #lancashire #banking #entertainment #streaming #cinema #burnley #bankofdave
