Arborist Steve Nimz on the famous Lahaina banyan tree. Leaves and twigs are dead but branches, trunks and aerial roots are alive.

They're watering it and giving it nutrients. They'll be aerating the soil and adding a compost mulch as well. Hopefully they'll be able to tell within 3-6 months if the tree is responding to the treatments.

My spouse reminded me today that we visited #Lahaina, #Maui during our trip to #Hawaii in 2006. We saw this amazing, multiple-trunked #Banyan tree which, along with the rest of the city, was severely damaged in this week's #wildfires. 😢
