I live in Australia so this particular species of kingfisher was always a bit of a celebrity for me. "Common" it may be in other parts of the world, but not where I call home.

Have wanted to see one up close for years. Have only had fleeting glances from a distance in the Himalayas. Until now. This guy sat nicely on a stick in the middle of the river for us. We drifted over in the rafts.

I had no idea they were so tiny!
