it's not touched on, but Carla has no interest whatever in anything masculine. Other than as items to trade, or possibly punch into oblivion.
Theda, on the other hand, loves anything shiny and pretty. Male? Female? Uncertain? She doesn't mind, so long as she thinks they are pretty.

This is a space opera with relationship problems, kidnap trauma, parenthood, tragedy and drama, but with a warm cosy ending for everyone, happy and huggy.

The space-wolves mate for life, which is a problem if you get pulled into a relationship with an outsider, like Barky did. Her mate isn't from her own pack, and she has been ostracised. Pack Leader still speaks to her, but she's not allowed to join in pack activities any longer, and this breaks her heart.
Mating isn't exactly celebrated, other than you sit next to each other during evening camp fire bondings.

Barky: I'll never go near any Iskian ship. That stinking crate... makes me shudder.
Theda: She can try as much as she likes to get me in there, but I'm not going in that gym. Carla is in there every day, and it stinks. I mean.. it STINKS.
Carla: The salvage merchants meet-up in a market on Shelfedge. Middle aged men, smirking, nasty cheats the lot of them.

Well, Barky is really called Haela so I guess Barky would class as a nickname.

Barky's name came from a prompt I was given during a tournament held for young writers. I was very stuck, unable to write anything and I was pushed to write something - anything - with this title.
Barky, however, thinks this name is ridiculous and will only answer to her true name of Haela, which means wanderer and suits her perfectly.

This is interesting. I have a definite attachment to colours around each book.

#HowToBreatheUnderwater is green and teal. With russet streaks for hair.
#TheHoneyedScentofIron is burgundy for the shoes and gold for Shayne.

The human government in this story isn't mentioned much, but it revolves round major companies who agree regulations that favour themselves and citizens who, for work or personal preference, join one individual organisation. Carla and Theda are members of SpaceSalvageFed which issues licences for space salvage and resale, and also controls the lives of their members.

Imagine looking up at night and seeing a line of space-wolves chasing a space-bunny. It would be magical.

Oh yes. See the star diamond hidden deep in Barky's ear? That was a gift from her lover, the father of the cubs, and the reason she lives far from the pack. There is no guarantee, no matter how much Pack Leader pleads for her to come back, that the cubs won't bear the stigma of 'Outside Pack'. She won't take that chance for them. Better to be rogue and remember the joy of his breath on her face.

Carla: I like the wolf. I might say I don't like dogs, and compare Barky to a dog, but she isn't. She growls and snarls and peels her lips back over her black gums and she'll stand guard over those infants of hers against anything coming near. She's not a pet. She's a wild animal, and I love that in her.

Barky: If by person, you mean human, I'd like them to learn how to talk to other beings than humans. So if they would do that, and preferably also use MindSpeech across distances, I'd find them more attractive than I currently do.

She certainly does! Plenty of exercise marching the cubs up and down outside, sucking in the stars, and she eats well, mainly space-bunnies, healthy wild meat, and if you crunch the bones and eat the little fragile skulls, lots of calcium too!

Theda: Barky is so needy! I didn't realise Space-Wolves needed so much attention, she nudges me all the time. I don't know what she wants...

Barky's home cave is similar to the other pack caves, deep, dark, with mossy beds & luminescent lichen on the walls, except for the entrance. Usually entrances are open spaces for fires & eating, but Barky's is hidden behind an overhanging rock, veined with quartz which sparkles in the star light. It brought Barky's mate to her cave from a passing pack, & she thanks the light of the universe that it did.

Describe your MC’s style as if in a fashion magazine

Space fashion this year is all high-voltage metal shades and mood-boosting Milky Way dressing. So much so that, on the starships, the main colour is hot silver, in collab with Theda of HeavenlySpaceSalvage Inc .There wasn't a single celebrity red carpet Theda didn't appear on this year, including the Galactic runways of Stellisha, where she led the silver-spangled models along the space lanes.
