English singer-songwriter Richard Hawley releases his fourth album, “Cole’s Corner”

This was one of my favorite albums of 2005. Guess I was in a mood, and the mood was mellow, perhaps even melancholy. Not my typical genre.

I hadn’t heard of this crooner til this album, but he’s got a great voice and the music conjures imagery of places you’ve been and the memories associated with it (The title refers to a Sheffield, England landmark and popular meeting place).

Sound wise, it’s a seamless blend of early rock & roll and rockabilly, country, traces of the vintage-'40s pop, jazz, and even some blues. If you like Nick Lowe, it’s got a similar vibe

Le premier titre, un long instrumental, donne d'emblée le ton : le dernier album de theCatherines sera #baroquepop ou rien. La suite le confirme, avec rien moins que 17 titres : cordes et cuivres souvent, orchestrations toujours très riches. Inspirés par certains de leurs proches et plus largement par leur ville de Hambourg, Heiko Schneider et Sandra Ost livrent ici leur production la plus ambitieuse et, à mes yeux, la plus réussie.
