The back of her trading card does mention she had a Klingon father and Human mother.

Klingon/Human romance is a real potential fertile ground for fiction. Notably Lois McMaster Bujold's long and wonderful Vorkosigan series started as a bit of an idea about such a romance, which shows in the early part of Shards of Honor.

Contrary to rumor it was apparently never written as a fanfic but the influence is still there.

It really annoys me that the French translation of Barrayar I'm reading EDITS entire chunks of text. Who is the translator to eliminate full paragraphs of content of a work in the process of translating? I just can't understand it.

Except those other times when this same mighty translator gets creative and decides to add several hundred words.

English original version: "Tough."

French translation: "Tant pis. Il faudrait qu'il se fasse une raison."

Really irritating.

English original version: "Well, after five-space navigational math, how hard could motherhood be?"

French translation: "Quand on s'est tapé cinq ans de maths spéciales pour la navigation spatiale, la maternité peut-elle être encore considerée comme une pénible épreuve?"

Do you think that French is really so complicated a langue, or it's just a not-very-good translation? Anyway, where did that "cinq ans" bit come from?
