During 1920s, Vickers in Barrow-in-Furness formed partnership with American company to make powdered coal. Wouldn't need stoking, more akin to oil firing. Pneumosilicosis prevalent in coal miners - but seen as problem for workers later in life, 'acceptable' hazard. Idea wasn't a business success, and diesel dominated.

Lancashire boilers on delivery, 1923 or soon after, LMS freshly painted on the wagon. The Lancashire boiler has two large flues for the fires instead of one, producing more heat, less smoke, and suitable for burning the hard coal of Lancashire's mills.
