The Bascetta Star is one of my favourite origami models.

To make it you fold 30 identical units and join them together.

I made one from cyanotype coated paper, and left it as a star for a while (days or weeks).

Then I took it apart and developed each piece.

Here is a composite of all 30 cyanotypes generated by being a Bascetta star for a while.

A star for Christmas!

'Star-Map-Star'

I used 30 old acetate star maps to make an origami Bascetta Star, lit from inside by its own constellation.

Now sky mapping is all digital, so turning the maps into a star emphasizes their physicality.

It also plays on the idealized notion of stars in our individual and cultural memory.

The star is about 90cm across. Part of the #AstroArt project with University of Southampton Astrodome.
