77 followers · 4677 posts · Server mstdn.social@RantyHighwayman #Basingstoke council (planning authority) and #Hampshire council (highways) declared climate emergencies, then went all in for approving new car-dependent housing developments where you have to drive to cross the busy dual carriageway to get to shops and schools without any cycling or bus links to nearby villages or the town centre. Lots of road-widening and roundabout upgrades though.

Is this negligence, ignorance, or deliberate due to a dislike of #cyclists? I wonder why #SusTrans don't audit the #NCN?

In the past, I cycled past but couldn't tell if the shop was open. Luckily the article gives the opening hours, so I'll be fine as long as it's a Saturday. This is on the little-known (because someone painted over the direction sign) Cycling Discoveries in North Hampshire https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/3352670 route that takes in Odiham and Crondall.

Hampshire County Council don't think anyone rides bicycles on this section of the National Cycle Network route 23 so installed a raised kerb, even though it is signed as the main route to the town centre. They say that the cycle barriers they installed further up the shared use path make cycling impossible on the shared use path.
If only Sustrans bothered to maintain standards on the NCN, and reviewed the routes regularly.
