@BUnicycling Do you know anything about basket making, and, particularly, cultivation of basket willows in Ireland?

I have decent info for Britain: osier beds marked on old maps, agricultural survey volumes from early C19, survey of Scotland, local heritage centres. But nothing for Ireland.

@Hesperalis that’s such a nice post - i fully agree, rural busses are wonderful, we should all use them much more. Your post made me realise that my last time was 9 months ago! But a particularly enjoyable trip

@Philsturgeon
Any zoos with pandas around?
Also, , is quite a craft in GBR. Firms making fences or garden supplies might also be interested. As well as and for and other kinds of plant support.
Also .

I found this out by the dog run this morning. We've had lots of wind, so it probably blew there. This is a devil's claw. It has little sharp barbs at the end of the long arms. The fruit from this plant can be eaten. It is kind of like okra. Indigeneous peoples use its fiber for basket making. It is a long process to prepare, but makes a fortress of a basket. (Tohono O'odham basket - the black is the devils claw) More on devil's claw at: nativeseeds.org/pages/tohono-o

Got the basket out of the ice in the water butt finally! Bindings we’re very brittle and troublesome but managed to fit the handle and am quite pleased with the result!

Hmmm looks like I won’t get the handle done until after the thaw! Needed to soak the stakes that will bind it on…

I normally don't share much, let alone personal stuff, on the internet... but I feel both my life and being shifting for the best, and I'm proud of myself for fighting through the hardships.

I wake up at 5:30, leave at 7:00 in the morning and get back home at 19:00. And repeat.

My brain now gets to on and . I'm allowed to and be myself around people who've never seen me anyway.

I've found my calling. I'm hopeful. I'm blessed.
