2/🧵 After blocking out the colours (I also recommend removing linework so you ca see how they blend better) I separate masks by the types of materials.
Clothes are one layer, metal is another layer, hair is another layer and skin is another layer.
I then make a flat colour that goes over the whole thing to figure out the 'atmospheric colour'. I usually pull this from photographs & blur them massively to know the main 'atmospheric colour'

Sometimes I get asked how I keep consistent colours in my comics. Honestly #colour #blocking with a 75% background is a good way to start. (#print requires lighter colours - I use 50% grey for digital only work)
