Instead of continuing the story, they remember what they experienced as a kid and want to show how they would have done it better. As a result, it devolves into meta-humor and stuff that only makes sense if you incorporate #fandom critiques, perspectives, and ideas.
Just like #FanFiction, some can even as good as the source material (I think #ManOfSteel and #BatmanVsSuperman were good examples of that).
