Today on my way home I was stuck in the line on #bchwy4 due to the reconstruction after the June fire. While I was waiting I saw a familiar Volunteer Fire Department truck and tender drive past going East. This was just minutes after hearing that the Provincial State of Emergency had been called due to the fires in the Interior. I know the chief of that department. We went to high school together. So I texted him and wished him and his crews good luck as I figured they were on their way to the ferry and the mainland to help. He texted back and confirmed. I hope he and all the first responders called in to help are OK.

4/ But you didnt come here for Bathroom pictures. So here's the beach. Which, thanks to the #CameronLakeFire closing #bchwy4 east of Port Alberni was shockingly empty for the end of June. The sun came out in the afternoon. A strong NW wind blew down the beach but that didnt stop us testing the 🥶 water. Also, I think these large granite stones were deposited here by unnatural, or rare, events. Like a landslide, earthquake or Tsunami.

Something excllent may be about to come from this #bchwy4 closure and #cameronlakefire at least for our little fam.
We may head West on Saturday to Pacific Rim National Park and Long Beach. The rumour is that it is incredibly quiet... including the campground! Even with single lane traffic opening Saturday morning that is not likely to change much! 😱 😬 😁 We'll see. 🤞This would be a perfect bookend to last year's #EVCrossCanada to PEI. Hoping.

Looks like they’re nearing completion on the measures to re-open #BCHwy4 to single lane traffic. This morning’s update includes this impressive picture of the two cranes holding the wire mesh that will keep rocks and other debris from falling onto the road. Obviously this is a temporary message just to allow traffic to at least move through in a controlled manner.

The #bchwy4 highway is closed at Chatsworth rd just past Whiskey Creek store. The fellow at the blockade says “No idea how long” #cameronLakeFire #BCWildfire

Large amount of smoke from the #CameronLakeFire now moving up the Cameron River Valley at the foot of Mt Arrowsmith and may track into the Alberni Valley. Likely that smoke will be affecting visibility on #bchwy4 No update yet on the bcwildfire website for today.

The only thing slipperier than the roads this morning is Elon Musk’s hold on a million new Mastodon users….
