I guess what it boils down to is that I kinda wish they weren't. I wish that they were at least a #BCorp or something like that. And I guess they generally are quite well aligned with that framework, and so it sticks out to me *more* when they do things that seem misaligned.

I'm specifically thinking about the freebies. And I'm still annoyed about their "mystery boxes".

I love this idea; 'The firms giving nature a stake in their business'.

@VirginiaMurr i think about the #bcorp theory of change a lot and how i can disperse those standards to weave them into the culture of those around me.

i realize that bubbling up to surpass the shareholder value north star is not likely, but that's future emory's problem. so for now i think about how to elevate our self-awareness, and give time to think about the negative impacts our businesses might have. if i can tie them to security i can even get people under SLAs!

@m8urnett i am WAAAAAY into b-corps! one of my favorites is Jeni's (#jenisIceCream) which makes two of the best ice creams available on this planet: Lemon Blueberry Parfait and Brambleberry Crisp.

and there are others i like and i prefer to do biz with them unless there's a really good reason not to. if i ever get around to doing something on my own you can be certain it'll be a b-corp once it outgrows an llc/llp. #bcorp

Every #BCorp I’ve discovered in the #UK are existing, reputable companies that have taken a step to formalise their values (#Riverford, #Alpkit, #KrystalHosting, #ZenInternet). It’s an extra badge or stamp that acknowledges their effort and certifies their honesty. Maybe in some cases it is not “enough” - of course there are always improvements to be made in anything… but it is something; something good.

Becoming a #BCorp allows firms to add a social output to the requirement to seek to make a profit (& requires attention to social outputs as part of #directors fiduciary duties).

The growth in firms so registering, prompts the Q. is:

is this enough, or is it any more than a sophisticated form fo #greenwashing?

Indeed without further re-structuring away from #capitalist organisational forms, is it anything more than business as usual?

We'll need to assess their wider practices to know!
