We spotted this sweet Shelly Sandmould abandoned on the dunes. We had already seen its tracks on several sandcastles. It looks cheerful enough, but they quickly pine away without their own human child, so we moved it to the beach entrance for potential adoption.

Pure delight today as we recorded our first juvenile Tell-The-Day sandysock. These clever little summer visitors display the name of the day around their mouths. Scientists are baffled at how they do it, Stunning plumage!

More female sandypants! A pair of size 14 M&S knickers, in a very pretty speckled plumage with lace trim. The poor thing has died, and lies crumpled, twisted, and discarded, probably following over-hasty removal, but we only observe, we must not speculate.

We spotted another pair of shy little black sandypants hidden in the dunes. This time it’s a female, likely one of the Bikini Bottom sub genus. We tiptoed away in case it was nesting.

An Angler’s Faux Sand Eel, washed up on a stormy night. These nasty little creatures break away from their lines quite frequently. The huge rusty hook is a danger to bare feet, so we put it in the bin.

The beach (mercurial) is mostly tiny stones right now, so, I did a tiny beach hunt.

See: yellow-ware, flow-blue, mid-1800’s transferprint earthenware, quartzite and chert debitage (scraps from tool making)

Orla spotted a black Dunnes Padded Sandybra. A mature specimen (36B) like this is very common inland, but rare on this beach. We are claiming a first, subject to checking the records.
