The amazingly well preserved Wanlockhead Beam Engine in Wanlockhead, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland's highest village. It was built here in the 1870s to help drain a lead mine that had by then been in operation for two centuries. Another random photo from my Flickr albums. This one is my model beam engine, constructed from a kit so I didn't have to do any machining, but the polishing and painting is all my own work.
