Just arrived, Weinersmith and Boulet's delightful retelling of #Beowulf, the gorgeous middle-grade #graphicNovel #BeaWolf. This book is somewhat difficult to get in the UK at the moment. But I was lucky to find Forbidden Planet (.com) had copies. Finished reading #BeaWolf by @ZachWeinersmith and @Bouletcorp with my son.
It is amazing.
I'm far from a litt major, but the aliterations are never dull, the story is excessively engaging, and I'm all for bringing back the kenning for everything in life.
The artwork is mesmerizing. The dynamism in some of the panels is out of this world. I could hear the crashing of the door. The cheering as Bea raises hell. The splashes or the river. I could hear the music behind.
It's an epic beyond epics.

Pas encore lu en entier mais ça commence bien, avec un texte au style épique pas piqué des vers et une traduction au taquet.

#BeaWolf, by @ZachWeinersmith and Boulet: Fantastic. It’s a retelling of Beowulf, wherein a young girl in a kingdom of children fights against a man who has the power to turn children into teenagers with a touch of his finger. (This is like killing them, you see.) The verse is sublime, the artwork gorgeous. And the story is absurd, often hilarious – but never ridiculous. You really feel a sense of seriousness in it. Highly recommended.

"In our furious fighting, we failed to look shoreward. There, teens had gaggled, grinning and grease-benighted! Our battle-dance drew them - dark-pitted demon-dogs, stink-crusted teen-beasts, shave-needing fun-shredders!"

I think this is my favorite bit so far from #BeaWolf by @ZachWeinersmith Count on teenagers to be "shave-needing fun-shredders" indeed.

Ce dessin de Grindle dans l'excellent Bea Wolf de @zaski et @Bouletcorp m'a vraiment scotché (l'un parmi tant d'autres).

J'y retrouve un peu de ce personnage flippant de The Wall (un prof si mes souvenirs sont exacts, encore quelqu'un qui détruit les enfants dans le film justement !)

My (well, partially my 6yo daughter’s) copy of #BeaWolf by @ZachWeinersmith arrived today.

She read a few pages and I don’t think she quite understood what was going on, so I “helped” by getting out my (translated) copy of Beowulf and explaining what it is, which led to her trying to read Old English.

I think I maybe didn’t help, but we will be reading it together, which may.

Just finished Bea Wolf, a super-weird, totally delightful retelling of Beowulf, except Bea is a kid defending a treehouse from a grumpy old man named Mr. Grindle, whose touch sucks the kid-life out of you and turns you into a grown-up.
