When you have an idea and put it out there, there’s a high chance it’ll be criticized or ridiculed.

What’s important to me (because I don’t know all of you 😉) is to get it known, especially if it’s a good one, because regardless of the opinions of others trying to shut you up for whatever reason (jealousy, a bad day, not feeling well), there might be one person who needs to hear it and maybe benefit from it.

Judging your idea by the first opinion you get of it isn’t enough: you need a sample and ideally a good discussion that goes with it and not simply a “it will never work” or “that’s just stupid”.

The limited knowledge others have of or about that idea can be caused by many things: maybe you didn’t explain well enough or maybe they just don’t know enough about the subject.

Not every interaction is out of malice (although some will be). You can’t/shouldn’t just stop after one comment.

And if your idea turns out to be crap? Well, at least you tried and found something that didn’t work after all and now you know more so you still win.

Feeling down and depressed can be easily triggered by this kind of situation so that’s why I hope someone can find some positivity in that message.

When you’re trying to convince yourself about something, be sure it’s for the right reason.

For example, if you’re not helping someone to get up in the morning, is it because you want them to be able to help themselves or is it because you want to be able to point a finger at them afterwards?

The line is pretty thin and we too often justify our actions with noble gestures but we’re likely just in it for our personal gain.

This one might sound trivial to some but to me it’s a trip outside the comfort zone.

I went to get my son at work like I normally would but this time I went earlier than usual. Nothing too crazy so far.

I normally park closer of the entrance and this time there’s no available spot so I park a bit further. Again, nothing unusual, just normal.

I tend to just park forward but this time I decided to just back in the parking spot because I was using my truck. I don’t like to park that way but it’s simpler since I’ll see my son going out the door. Again, just pratical, right?

Now comes the interesting part and why I started with this introduction: there’s someone parked on my left and this person just backed away and went for gas in front of where I am. I notice the hood of the car seems open or maybe not properly locked. Normally, I’d just let it go as maybe it’s just broken or the person might not like to be approached by a stranger or whatever reason I tell myself so I don’t have to get out of the truck and go talk to this person.

I decide to just go because this could be dangerous and if this person is annoyed or blows me off or finds me ridiculous, it doesn’t matter. I put my anxiety aside and go. I politely say I think the hood might be unlocked and sure enough it was.

All this to say that if I have been late to pickup my son or parked the other way or in the usual spot or I didn’t decide to go talk to this person, this might’ve turned out differently.

I don’t say this for glory or pats on the back. No.

The crucial part to remember in all of this is I decided to go and talk even when anxiety and pure laziness told me otherwise: just by talking to someone, you might be able to prevent something bad to happen.

Act when you see something wrong instead of simply think it’s not your job. Safety is the job of everyone.

After a month of being diagnosed with adhd, I’ve seen so many things change around and in my life.

I already mentioned a few of them but to add to that, lately I’ve seen my weeks go by a bit slower than it used to and I can complete more projects as well which helps.

I still don’t have more motivation to do stuff and that’s alright as I’m not looking for that exactly: I’m more focused on taking the first step.

One strange thing is I’m not seeking more and more wisdom outside by the way of books or seminars or online videos about self-help. This feels strange as I’ve been reading and listening to various content for over a decade now. I know it’s not because I don’t have anything else to change but I think I’m not seeking this “ideal” self I idolized for so long and I’m just trying to do my best instead. I think I’m really comparing myself to myself now and that’s what I always needed.

I think I’m making more progress now and THAT is a great step forward.

I was asking myself what I wanted to do next as a nice project to move my career along and help general growth and ended up in the why/how loop of questions.

Every time I’d get an answer I’d ask myself how/why can/would I do that in order to slice down the project in smaller and smaller chunks until it’s more manageable.

The deeper I got with those questions, the more I felt my brain twist and turn on itself and the more I felt annoyed.

I kept going until I was satisfied with the answer but it shows how interesting it can be and how easily we get annoyed by too many questions as we often don’t want to dig in or accept we might not know (yet) the answer.

Keep digging and find what’s next for you: you might get annoyed in the process but you’ll probably find answers along the way so it’s worth the headache.

I really like the expression “Be like water”: be able to adapt, act, and react accordingly.

Beautiful way of dealing with everything in life!

We often talk about controlling what you can control and to let go of what you can’t, but it’s a difficult balancing act most of the times.

This dance isn’t easy if you’re leaning too much on either side but by being able to observe how you react to each situation, it might help in adjusting yourself.

Honestly, it can be kinda fun if you make it a game and not think of it as “either/or”: the extremes might be causing some to just panic. Let’s just see this for what it is: an event.

Life will present many of these and it’s a matter of discovering if it’s worth our time to try and “solve” those or let them “dis-solve” 😉

Lately I’ve been needing my 8h+ of sleep so I’m grateful for being able to get it but I’m also annoyed I still feel a bit ashamed about it.

Sleep is important and should not be neglected as it dictates the next day you’ll face.

The fact I’ve tried for so many years to avoid it still impresses me now: I see how poorly I operated in the past despite trying to convince myself I was efficient. What a lie! I would chew ground coffee to stay awake…yeah I know!

The amount of time isn’t really what matters most compared to the quality of the sleep you get. Besides, each person is different and requires a different amount.

Take care of your health and sleep: you honestly can’t tell when’s the next time you’ll be able to enjoy it.

The changes in life can be very subtle or they can be massive but in all those cases, they are changes.

You might not control all of them but you can have an influence on most (especially the smaller ones).

Starting a good habit is one that can have a bigger effect on your life than you can imagine. Its ripple effect can be what makes the difference in your day.

Go on, go change YOUR world!

@pharaohkatt @atomicshrub right now I’m fixing my son’s laptop at 8pm on a Friday night … and I don’t particularly like doing that but yeah it’s broken and has been broken for a while … he asked me to have a look (very nicely too I might add) so I was like let’s have a look.

It’s been over 2h almost now and I’m still working on this but I can’t just quit now because it would mean leaving this on the table with all the screws so might as well figuring out how to fix it.

The other thing is I couldn’t figure out how to remove the back cover so instead of just quitting or risking breaking it, I went for help on YouTube (which I’d normally never do because I have to figure it out myself otherwise I’m not as good as I think I am, right?) well I saved myself some time by going there and finding help.

This simple task became easier because I didn’t have to overthink it and just see what I needed and got it and then I could move on. I would normally just freeze and panic or be very angry at the whole thing when there’s no reason for that 😉

Pretty funny how things can work out when you take a step back and review what you need and ask for help. The only problem is we often can’t do that simple task because we often think we’re just not trying hard enough. Sad but true 😉

Still working on the basement cleanup and right now it’s a matter of going at it in a semi-mindless manner: don’t think too hard and just start each section one by one.

There’s also a part of me that doesn’t want to face certain things like potential wasted food in some bins or having to sort through old papers. Sure those might make you think more or feel more but it’s not impossible if you monitor yourself a bit. At least that’s how I see it.

It’s not a matter of just stopping because I feel anxious but noticing it and seeing if I should take a second to breathe and move on or if I should focus on something else at the moment: pushing yourself to the extremes might not always be the solution.

I say that with a bit of humour in my tone but I believe it’s all a matter of knowing yourself or at least starting to, now.

Treat yourself like you treat a dear friend.

I think I’m at a point in my life where knowing that some can appreciate what I have to offer is enough (but not required) more than wanting the world to know what I’m capable of.

Sure, it’s best if it starts by you being your best friend :)

It’s so fascinating what we can do to have a pat on the back and feel appreciated and it’s nice when it happens but it’s something we can’t fully control so unless we let go of the expectation of receiving recognition, we can’t really appreciate what we do because it often ends up being done BECAUSE we want others to see.

Let’s just do what has to be done and be happy for the added bonus of recognition: that’s just it - a bonus.

I completely understand it’s easier said than done though but as soon as I understood that not everything I do had to be known or celebrated by others, I felt some relief in being me and allowed myself to make more mistakes to learn.

This is one aspect of that perfectionism lie we tell ourselves.

Hopefully this helps.

I’ve been told for a long time to set a calendar to do what needs to be done and have the life I want. But, I think I’ve been doing it wrong all along: even though I’m trying to have a day that I want, there’s no incentive to do the work faster while applying myself to the task.

We all have responsibilities that we must fulfil and the more we wait, the more pressure we have to complete them. This leads to resentment and self hatred in most cases if we wait too long.

So, what I’ll do is plan some leisure time but also some of the work I want accomplished during the day. If I complete the tasks faster, I’ll readjust next time but the time left for now can be used for whatever other activity I want. This way, I can still do a lot but will want to focus on it to do it faster.

I’m pretty sure a lot of you already knows this. To me, it feels like something I couldn’t or shouldn’t do. I’ll keep digging for the “why” but I’m pretty sure it’s a matter of being convinced there’s more time than in reality.

I think I’m tired of being the overwhelmed one who thinks he’s productive but is simply overworked for no reason other than wanting to look busy and not be judged as lazy.

What do you think? Do you have any tips to help you achieve more?

Mistakes are inevitable if you want to do anything in life. Doing nothing may be safer in the long run but it’s leading to the road of regret and resentment.

It’s better to try and fail and try again because in the process, if you pay attention, you can learn a lot.

Sometimes, wanting the result is causing more issues than following the process and seeing the progress.

The end goal is not the goal: the journey is.

Grow by trying not by complaining.

A lot of the work to is just looking at what we did so far in life and what’s left to do.

Enjoy the wins AND the losses as they both can teach you something: it doesn’t really matter either way as long as you learn.

Letting go of being right is of extreme importance in that case.
