Beehaw is considering other alternatives to Lemmy due to its immaturity as software and their attempts at improvements being blocked/ignored by Lemmy developers. That feels ominous to me.

It seems like Lemmy is not close to being a practical Reddit alternative. To be fair, Reddit's enshittification forced a lot on Lemmy all at once. It didn't have a chance to grow organically.

Ooh now #Beehaw does seem to encourage a different culture, which seems very promising! All I'd heard about them until now was folks complaining they'd defederated from instances with an influx of users from Reddit. And yet now that makes even more sense in retrospect!

I LOVE IT!

I guess this is due to an influx of new user who jumped ship as the third party apps have died.

I hope everyone trying Lemmy for the first time enjoys it and is able to understand federation without too many problems.

My main #fediverse fix, #Lemmy , has been getting the hug of death from the #redditmigration today.

I love the community over at #beehaw but it's been 502 errors 50% of the time on page loads all day 😭

There's always #mastodon though 😄

@jcrabapple #Reddit the company failed, and if big communities like #Beehaw keep being asinine and defederating, the #redditmigration will fail too. Not to mention the issue of there being no quick replacement for #Apollo yet, giving there was a whole month of preparation, a #Dev could have spun something up. What we're left with are apps that lack a basic search function or just don't scratch that Apollo itch.

@KirbySSM same, it's gonna be a rough few weeks adjusting, hopefully I don't relapse and download their shitty app. I'm TRYING #Lemmy, but the fact that #Beehaw decided to defederated like 50k users for arbitrary reasons, along with the lack of a replacement #Apollo like app and lack of content, it's been a challenge. #Beehaw is still on an old version of #Lemmy so I can't use it with #jerboa . Kind of shows how Lemmy really isn't ready for the prime time yet if entire instances get cut off from app users with a major update.

As far as I know - the reason they are delaying is because Lemmy developers removed captchas from 0.18 which brings floods of more bots. Totally fair enough, but kind of a stupid decision? Especially with the bot issue the #Fediverse has at the moment.

Has #beehaw been dead/"maintenance mode" for a long time for anyone else, or is it just me?

Looking back on all that social media kerfuffle lately, I think the whole "let's have everyone in the world here on the same platform" was perhaps a mistake. I'm not sure I want to have Jim Bob the Trumper reading what I post. Honestly, a curated community seems more my speed. In that vein, I'm kinda glad that my #Lemmy instance, #Beehaw, decided to defederate from a couple of instances with open signups. I don't care about big numbers or clout. I just want to be with my people.

Looks like I didn't get into #beehaw , so I'll try #kbin instead since I didn't want to associate with lemmy after the kerfuffle with Beehaw. Which is fair as I answered truthfully about what I could contribute to their community. My value and what I bring to the table, is something I don't know. The nebulous nature of my inner world can give one nothing in regards to granting one an accurate answer on my value.

So excited to be a part of wholesome fun like this.
