Hi #beekeepers especially any in #Scotland. I came across a hive of wild bees in the Isle of #Bute. These were very dark, almost black. I have a vague memory that black bees are the native strain & quite rare. Is this right? My picture is not great but the best I could do. #apiary #apiarist

Wondering if we'll lose a beehive at some point to a bear (#beekeepers in bear country typically have them fenced with electrified fence... we do not... because, bears indeed love honey).

So, we were accidental #beekeepers first. My dad had brought us a hand-me-down hive, hat, gloves, and a smoker. We managed to catch a #swarm    of #bees in 2020, but they didn't make in through the #PolarVortex in early 2021.

#BeeKeepers of the fediverse - looking for opinions on the ‘Flow’ hives. Are they worth the money, are they all they’re hyped up to be, or are they just expensive gimmicks? My partner wants to get into #BeeKeeping, and they do look pretty slick.
